It goes without saying that leaving Sydney behind was one of the most heartbreaking things I have had to do. I had dreaded the moment for weeks beforehand and believe me - it was as awful as I imagined it would be.
As I walked through the departure gates, a million thoughts flashed through my mind, and a thousand tears rolled down my face.
For me, the past 12 months have been an incredible journey. One that I will never forget and treasure always. I can't begin to tell you how great it has been and how one snap decision to take my life to a new and unknown city the other side of the world has brought about such an amazing year.
In short, the many experiences you happen upon are ultimately what makes, or breaks, your time wherever you maybe. However, what really counts is those who you are lucky enough to share them with.
During my time in Australia I was fortunate enough to stumble across and become friends with people that brought about endless fun and happiness. People that made my time as brilliant as it was.
Despite being 12,000 miles away, I know there are there a certain few that will be close to my heart for years to come, who I hope to share more precious moments with again in the future.
Being away from home for that amount of time has also helped me to learn alot about myself too. I've worked out what's important to me, and what's not. I've come to realise that I need to trust my instincts more, follow my heart better and really do what makes me happy. I see how precious time is, and I'm less inclined to waste it.
For now, it's time for me to start a new chapter in my life back home in the UK. Down the line though, who's to say that I won't return to the city that turned my world upside down, shook me up and gave me so much? I'm certainly keeping the door open. You just never know...
